Other People
There
are other people who are intimately involved in Poppy Magic. “Poppy
Magic” has been under development since the 1960's, by breeding
and selection, firstly in East London South Africa by the late
Carl Rein, and then in Howick,KwaZulu-Natal.
Jean Mackenzie, who was given some of Carl Rein's Iceland poppy seed in 1975,
was one of the main contributors in the breeding of Poppy Magic, through careful
selection every year over 15 years at her Berea Road garden in Howick.
The unique flowers that
Jean identified and from which she annually collected seed for
re-selection the following year, set the scene for others in
Howick, in particular, Madge and Gillian McEwen, and their neighbour,
Dave Goodenough, to continue this annual selection process from
1990 until Poppy Magic's release in 2004.
Then there is my family
- my mother and sisters who have supported me along and still
are - right from replacing my camera, to making cards, selling
the prints, delighting in new innovations and advising me with
a sense of humour. Particular thanks to Phil who has also financed
so much of the Poppy Magic innovation and helped spread the magic.
Then there are the magic men at Kodak First
Photo in Howick - Laurie Butlin and Vernon Green who have been
invaluable in advising, guiding, admiring and
ensuring that my prints are the best. They provide an excellent
service and are renowned for their state of the art technical results.
They have helped me print on different mediums from photographic
papers to canvas. Thank you! You can find out more about them on www.firstphoto.co.za
And
of course there are the framers...Clive and David Kepplerl who
have been invaluable in helping me get going and who provide an
excellent service all round.
